Russian Tourist Visa Processing

One of the main and more confusing components of joining any trip to Russia is that of obtaining a Russian tourist visa that will allow you to enter and exit the Russian Federation. And an important feature of the ESN Sweden Road Trips to Russia is that Russian tourist visa processing is part of the trip package – meaning that Niinimäki Travels gets the visas processed for everyone.

Once the Paper Work & Payment Meetings have been held at your university, the individual Russian Tourist Visa Applications will be submitted for processing on a trip-by-trip basis. This means that the first visas to be processed will be for trip #110. As soon as all of the visas for this trip are ready, the applications for trip #111 will be submitted for processing, and so on.

Therefore, the visa applications for trip #112 (the last trip of the semester) will be the last to be submitted to the Russian Consulate for processing. It is likely that each trips visa processing time will be 7-10 working days.

The Russian tourist visa is valid only for the duration of your trip and cannot be extended or used again. This does mean that you may be without your passport for up to 3 weeks (depending on your trip choice) from the date of the Paper Work & Payment Meeting at your university. Plan your other travels outside of Sweden with this in mind and read more about Early Visa Processing below.

Passports will be returned to each participant on Day One of each trip, at the TALLINK SILJA FERRY terminal in Stockholm, unless you make other arrangements with us for the early return of your passport.

Here are the details about Russian tourist visa processing

Every participant on one of the trips must obtain an individual, single entry, tourist visa to enter and exit the Russian Federation – the exception to this is passport holders from ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, TURKEY, THAILAND, HONG KONG S.A.R., CROATIA, SERBIA, VENEZUELA

and ISRAEL.

Citizens of these nine countries do not need a tourist visa to enter the Russian Federation for any duration of up to 90 days during a six-month period. However, you will need paper work from the hotel(s) in Russia (that we will obtain for you) so that you can cross the border. For more information about, please contact:

Unfortunately, we are unable to get tourist visas for citizens of the above listed countries, unless you have permanent residence in Sweden (meaning that you live in Sweden on a permanent basis) and have a residence permit for Sweden that is valid for at least 12 months. The only way that citizens of these countries can apply for a Russian tourist visa is to do so in person, at a Russian Consulate in their own (home) country.

In the case that you have permanent residency in Sweden, we may be able to provide you with the paper work to apply for the tourist visa from a Russian Consulate in Sweden. This paper work will include confirmation of your hotel stay(s) in St Petersburg and/or Moscow, as well as a voucher proving that you have paid for your trip from Sweden, through Finland, to Russia – as required by the General Consulate of the Russian Federation to apply for a tourist visa.

There is two Consulates of The Russian Federation located in Sweden: one in Stockholm, and another in Göteborg.

If you are a citizen of any of the above listed countries, you will be required to appear in person to apply for a Russian tourist visa.

To get more information about this, please contact one of the General Consulates of The Russian Federation in Sweden.
